Although the following has been written with snow in mind it also applies to any conditions that may result in changes to the school day e.g. flooding, power cuts, high winds, lack of water etc.
RED status – School closed
This applies when access to the school by parents and staff is prevented either because the A-roads are temporarily impassable or because Roke Lane is impassable.
Parents and staff will be informed by 7:00 am by SMS if the school is closed and the Distance Learning Routine will apply (see below).
AMBER status – School open; shorter day
When local roads are passable with care; and so that parents and staff may come and go in daylight, a later starting time and an earlier finishing time will apply, as follows:
Parents and staff will be informed by 7.00 am by SMS if AMBER status applies.
During AMBER status the minibus services are not operational.
Drop off
Years 5-8 9:00 am
Years 3-4 9:15 am
Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2) 9:30 am
Pick-Up
Pre-Prep (Nursery to Reception) 2:45 pm
Pre-Prep (Years 1-2) 3:00 pm
Years 3-4 3:15 pm
Years 5-8 3:30 pm
We would expect those with children at the school of different ages to bring them in and pick them up at the times of the eldest/elder and therefore younger children will be looked after.
Please do NOT park during Amber status.
Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2)
Drop-Off: Please drive up to the front door and drop your child there. Then drive out through the parent car park and back onto Roke Lane.
Pick-Up: At the end of the school day the youngest children will be ready in the front reception hall. Please pull up to the front door and we will bring the children out to you.
Prep (Years 3 to 8)
The older children will be dropped-off and picked-up from the Lower. Please turn left into the parent carpark as you enter the main gate and pull up to the Lower to drop-off or collect your child. There is no need to park, the children will be collected from and returned to you. Obviously it would be helpful if parents could think about lift sharing to reduce the amount of traffic to and from the school. Please organise this among yourselves and agree on pickup and drop off times.
Children who cannot attend school will be taught using the Distance Learning Routine (see below).
Clothing
The children should wear non-uniform in the form of comfortable warm clothes and trainers. The children will need wellies and we advise two changes of socks and two pairs of gloves. Please make sure these are named, especially the wellies.
The children will not be allowed out if they do not have sufficiently warm clothes.
There will be no sports lessons outside until the snow has gone and the ground thawed, so please do not bring in any Games/PE kit unless requested to do so.
GREEN status – School open; normal day
This applies when we expect the great majority of children to attend school.
If the weather in your area makes it difficult or impossible for your child to get to school, the Distance Learning Routine will be available after 24-hours where difficulties persist (see below).
Distance Learning.
On Red status days, teachers of Years 1 to 8 will publish work via Google Classroom. Children will receive instructions and tasks from teachers with lessons timetabled for that day. Please bear with us if there is a delay in getting work published for the first lessons of the day. Some lessons may involve a live Google Meet with the teacher. In Early Years (Nursery, Kindy and Reception), activities will be shared via Tapestry. For short-term closure (1 day only), this work is optional. In the event of snow, we do encourage children to get outside and enjoy it!
Please bear in mind that power supplies in the area are notorious for cuts during severe weather therefore some staff/children may well be without power and thus unable to set/complete work.
Yours sincerely,
Philip Oldroyd
