Year 2 has had a fantastic first half term. We are very proud how well the children have all settled into Year 2 and have taken on the role of being the eldest in Pre-Prep.
In English this half term, they have enjoyed exploring African Tales. The children began by looking at stories and the different components that make a good story with the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and then the ending. They used a story mountain to plan their stories and all created their own story about a lion. This moved on to looking at poems and performing poems. Everyone worked really hard to create a poem about a crocodile and perform it to their peers. In the two weeks proceeding half term the children have been exploring the features of non fiction texts and creating their own non fiction page for our class book about African animals.
During maths, we have explored place value in great depth, ensuring the children have a good understanding of numbers and partition numbers into the tens and the ones. We have also looked at the part, part, whole model. They have then used this learning to gain a greater understanding within their addiction. They have all worked really hard in maths during the half term. This African theme has continued into our science, geography and art leaning with our theme ‘Around the World’. In science they became plant detectives, learning about what plants need to grow and exploring the plants around them. During their weekly art sessions they have investigated the natural world around us and used this in their art creations. So far in geography they have explored Europe, Australia, Kenya, China and America.
We hope you have a lovely half term break and that you will take part in our Usborne Sponsored Reading Challenge set by our Librarian Mrs Dudley. A hard copy of the sponsorship form and reading log can be found in your child’s book bags. Happy reading.
