Year 2 had a fabulous school trip to Brooklands Museum this week, as part of their ‘Sails, rails, wheels and wings’ transport topic.
The sun was shining as we arrived at Brooklands and went straight into our first session – a fun workshop making ‘peg racers’ and learning about a car’s axles, wheels, chassis and friction.
Then we visited the Bus Museum, with a guided tour guide taking us through buses from the first horse-drawn ones to modern electric buses. The children took turns dressing up as a bus driver and taking the wheel; and climbing up to the top deck of the double deckers.
The children were particularly excited to have a tour of the exhibits in the ‘Journeys by Air’ area. They enthusiastically searched out some of the aeroplanes we have been learning about in class, such as the Vickers Wellington. After a self-led tour of the Aircraft Factory, we concluded our visit with a guided tour of Concorde.
The minibuses were full of tired, happy children on the journey home!
