We have had such fun in Reception this week celebrating Chinese New Year.
The home corner transformed into ‘The Golden Dragon’, with the children taking take-away orders over the phone, writing lists of customer orders and practising their chopsticks skills. We have discovered some budding talent for creative culinary skills, especially for desserts… wooden curtain rings become ‘chocolate noodles’ and ‘chocolate flan with chocolate sauce’!
The children loved learning the story of how the years in the Chinese zodiac came by their names and reenacted the story of ‘The Great Race’ as part of our weekly assembly. We watched video clips on Chinese New Year celebrations and marvelled at the fabulous dragon dances.
Chinese lanterns were made; and we even sneaked in some maths, discussing ordinal numbers as the children sequenced the order the animals came in ‘the great race’.
