How well do you know the members of the Barrow Hills team? There may be lots of familiar faces, but particularly at the moment, with no bacon butties, no BHCC events and ‘drop and go’ in the car park, we thought you might like to get to know us better. Starting with… Miss Anna.
Miss Anna has had long association with Barrow Hills, both her brothers and her son were pupils here and Miss Anna has been teaching our children ballet for sixteen years. Miss Anna is accompanied by Miss Lucy on the piano; she has played for Miss Anna’s pupils since 2006 and is a Licentiate of the Royal School of Music.
Miss Anna has taught ballet since 1984 and is a qualified Royal Academy of Dance teacher. The Arden Holford School of Ballet was founded by Arden Holford in 1961 and Miss Anna “followed in [her] mother’s footsteps” and joined her in 1984. Miss Anna teaches the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, taking young dancers from all ages and experience and helping them reach their full potential. Our children from Nursery to Year 8 join Miss Anna to pursue their love of dance.
What is your favourite bit about teaching?
I just love the children. I get to hear some amazing things that never fail to make me smile.
What is your favourite food?
French cheese – boursin and camembert. And I have recently discovered a love for Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar!
What is your favourite colour?
Blue. That’s why we don’t have the pink ballet uniform!
What is your favourite ballet?
La Fille mal gardée
Funniest lesson?
This was actually recently. The Year 5 girls arrived for their lesson as Miss Lucy and I had just finished sansitising the studio, including the floor. They put wipes down under their ballet shoes and gave the floor an extra clean – to musical accompaniment from Miss Lucy!
When Miss Anna was fundraising for the Starlight Foundation, she spent the day at Charing Cross station dressed as which animal? (Answer only from Miss Anna!)
