Matthew Haines OBH 2019

During Matt’s time at Barrow Hills, he played at Guildford Hockey Club U8-U12. He also played at County level for Surrey at U10 and U12, having been nominated by both Barrow Hills and Guildford Hockey Club. He was then selected into the England Performance Centre (PC) squad at U15, a regional squad that played against other regional PC teams in the South of England.

The following season, and following an extended trial process, Matt was successful in securing a place in the England U16 squad where he has been playing for the past two seasons. He represented England in last season’s 8 Nations tournament in Spain and has recently Captained the squad in their first International this season against Ireland. Matt’s ambition going forward is to secure himself a place on the England U18 squad next season, and to take his hockey as far on the journey as possible! Hockey at Barrow Hills undoubtedly provided him with a great introduction to a sport that has now become his absolute passion and provided a fun environment to play with his friends!
