Our dedicated DT team have challenged the different year groups to some interesting and diverse tasks this week.
In Food Tech, Mr Clarke’s task was for the children to make pizza. Nathaniel (6G) demonstrated creative thinking as he cooked his ‘makeshift pizza’. Nathaniel said “I unfortunately did not have any ingredients for a pizza. So I learned how to make a bread that uses very little ingredients such as flour, water, oil and butter.” Emma (6G), also improvised to create her pizza, using pitta bread, passata, garlic mixed herbs and cheese. They were “yummy”. Issy (8G) used her initiative and made cinnamon buns instead of burger buns.
Mr Clarke commented, “Well done to everyone who attempted their recipes this week. If distance learning carries on after Easter, I will send more recipes for you to try. Some of these may be tricky to make at home with potentially limited ingredients but please continue to think creatively and use the ingredients you have. I look forward to seeing pictures of more people cooking!”
Mr Conway set the ‘Spaghetti Bridge Challenge’ for his Middle Prep DT lesson this week. The children were asked to construct a free standing bridge out of spaghetti, strong enough to support a 250g bag of sugar. Charlie (5R) rose to the challenge and demonstrated his findings with a particularly impressive Powerpoint presentation showing his knowledge of bridges.
Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed their brief – to build a den! The rules stated that they couldn’t use sticks from a living tree or any man made materials. Alexander (3R) and also Annabel (3R), with help from her sister Alexandra (1G) , enjoyed being out in the spring sunshine creating their dens.
