Co-CurricularCreativity, critical thinking & teamwork

So much happens beyond the classroom—children explore their passions, cultivate talents, and develop vital life skills through 30+ clubs offered every week as part of our core programme.

Our co-curricular activities play a vital role in developing a wide range of attributes in our children. They also provide the freedom of choice, ensuring that those who wish to excel in their passions receive the support they need to achieve their goals.

Get busy!

The core elements of our co-curricular programme—including art, DT, music, drama, computing, adventurous activities, and sport—are timetabled during the school day and accessed by all children at Barrow Hills. Beyond their lesson times, we encourage them to ‘get busy’ by exploring new activities as well as deepening their engagement with those they already love.

In summary our busy bees participate in 75 music lessons each week, over 40% of our children enjoy one of our three choirs, 100% of of Prep and Upper Prep represent our school in over 185 sports fixtures held each term, not to mention our NINE drama productions each year or over 30 engaging and enriching educational trips

Beyond academics, we place great importance on the development of emotional intelligence, resilience, and teamwork though co-curricular activities. At this stage, children begin to develop the skills and habits that will shape their futures—whether it’s through collaborative projects, creative expression, or developing problem-solving abilities. Our dedicated staff takes the time to understand each child as an individual, tailoring support and encouragement to help them thrive.

“One of the funnest clubs. We get to present all of our own ideas and, for a treat, we get to use the Year 7 and 8 Common Room too.”

Keira, Year 6 - Public Speaking Club

“ Running Club is such a great way to start in the morning. We have lots of different runs and it can get pretty hard, but in a good way!”

Hermione, Year 6

“ A great way to express my ideas and how I feel to my friends. We also just have a really good time.”

India, Year 6 - Drama Club

“ I go to Adventure Club. There are loads of hard obstacles we climb over and under. Then we get to eat marshmallows around our campfire.”

George, Year 2

“Construction Club is super crafty. You can make all sorts of stuff and it makes me enjoy the afternoon and it just makes me feel so peaceful.”

Hannah, Year 2

“Surely just the best school club, like ever!”

James, Year 7 - Mountain Biking

Happy. Busy. Achieving. Thriving.

Barrow Hills children are all of this… and more.

We offer a broad range of options throughout Pre-Prep, Prep, and Upper Prep—ensuring there is something for everyone. Many activities complement our regular sports and PE programme, such as tennis coaching, judo, tap, jazz, and ballet lessons. LAMDA and musical theatre lessons enhance our rich drama opportunities. Additionally, we have a popular Adventure Club, run by our Forest School leader, and a Mountain Biking Club, led by our very own Head and chief adventurer, John Towers.

Through these experiences, children expand their knowledge and skills, build friendships, develop leadership qualities, and foster a sense of belonging and school pride—all of which help prepare them for greater things.
