Friday Feature – Mr Tomas O’Kelly

24th November 2023

What is your current position at Barrow Hills, and how long have you worked here?

I am a Year 3 class teacher and I teach drama and sport to some other year groups. I have taught at Barrow Hills for a little over two years.

Where were you born and where do you live now?

I was born in Portsmouth and now live with my partner, Emily, in Wimbledon.

What's your favourite thing about working at Barrow Hills?

The people! I always tell friends that my favourite thing about my job is that on any given day I might speak to a hundred different people about hundred different things, and seven year olds are endlessly funny and insightful!

If you had a 'Teacher Superpower', what would it be and how would it benefit your pupils?

To make learning fun for everyone. Happy learners are the best learners.

What is a great piece of advice you have received?

Someone told me I should read a new novel every month, I try to stick to that.

Who is Bob the Bear to you?

Bob the Bear is Year 3’s very own intrepid explorer, his diary is full of adventures taken with the children, he even went on a plane last year!

What's the most adventurous or challenging activity you have organised for your pupils?

Probably the abseiling and climbing at PGL last year, they went much higher than me!
