We are an educational nursery, offering a journey brimming with wonder, growth, and curiosity for every child.
What makes our nursery unique is its integral connection to the wider Barrow Hills Prep School, not limited to facilities and resources. Set in an idyllic woodland environment, our Forest School provision adds exceptional value to a holistic and active education. Additionally, our nursery pupils benefit from creative support provided by specialist teachers in Sports, Music, French, and Art, building relationships that will last their entire Barrow Hills journey. Our ambition and depth go beyond the norm, as we strive to give children the very best start in their early years, something which is reflected in our Early Years Foundation Stage profile results which are well above both local and national levels by the end of the academic year.

We have created a nurturing environment where children feel safe and are encouraged to be both curious and kind. Activities are often centered around the children’s own interests, fostering early independence, collaborative play, problem-solving, and the pursuit of their unique talents.

Igniting imaginations
Our kind and responsive teachers watch and listen to the children very carefully and choose topics and activities which they know will ignite the children’s interest and imagination. We know that all children are at their happiest and learn at their highest level when engaging in activities which relate to their interests. These topics change from term to term and year to year depending on each particular group of children. From space to dinosaurs, autumn leaves to insects, ducklings to riotously dancing the can-can, life in the Barrow Hills Nursery is full of bright imaginings and dollops of heart. Oh, and plenty of playdough sausages… because they never go out of fashion.
Immersed in nature’s classroom
Over many years, our magical environment has been a key part of our children’s learning, enriching a wealth of happy experiences from the very beginning of our children’s journeys with us. We very regularly take Forest School-style outing to the woods, relating the topics we are exploring together indoors to the outdoors. We go out in all weathers, pulling on warm tracksuits, waterproofs, coats, wellies and always a jolly disposition.
High teacher-to-child ratios in our Nursery mean we can keep our smallest children safe but with a sense of independence and exploration in their outdoor classroom. As well as the woodland, our youngest children benefit from the undercover outdoor play areas that are integral to their classrooms – making every day a play outside day.
