In 2024 we embarked on an exciting journey to harness Artificial Intelligence, working with university partners, researchers and pioneering experts in this field to empower Bridewell pupils with advanced skills to thrive and do good in our rapidly changing world.
We aim to harness AI in support of Bridewell’s historic mission: to do good, be inclusive, and foster academic excellence. Above all, human interaction remains at the heart of our approach, valuing the expertise of our teachers and the authenticity of relationships. Our goal is to empower pupils’ progress through an age-appropriate approach, where AI actively supports individual learning pathways. Teachers’ expertise will always remain at the forefront of education. We aim to equip pupils, whether in Year 6 or completing A-levels, with an accessible and advanced tool to drive academic standards forward.
To achieve this, we are implementing a safe AI system—specifically designed for the three Bridewell Schools—in partnership with Unified Projects, a tech start-up founded by King Edward’s alumni. Our Bridewell AI provides a highly secure environment, giving teachers full administrative control and oversight. The AI is also programmed to align closely with our curricula, standards, and ethics. Pupils will be able to access Bridewell AI—much like a personal teaching assistant—via their school laptops or in the IT suites.
In parallel we are also excited to announce that we have been successful in procuring Lead Challenge Partner status with the University of Surrey’s Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Digital Media Inclusion (CDT), delivered in partnership with Royal Holloway, University of London. Our collaboration began in earnest in March 2025, with a team of AI researchers working alongside us to help ensure that pupils can access and navigate our Bridewell AI with clear purpose. In addition to the wealth of AI expertise within these two universities, we are thrilled to have the pro-bono support of cutting-edge industry pioneers committed to ‘AI for Good’, who actively support this partnership.
