News from Middle Prep

Well, can you believe we are at half-term already!

What a jammed packed week we have all had. Year 4 started off the week with a super science trip to Winchester Science Museum.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on learning experience, which perfectly supported their sound topic. They also had the opportunity to create slime and spend some time in the planetarium. Year 3 have been busy beavering away completing their first handwriting assessment of the year, and congratulations goes to those who have successfully gained their pen licences.

There has been a buzz across the school with House poetry entries being written and submitted with the theme, Refuge. I can’t wait to hear the finalists after half-term and read their poems to an audience and judge.

On Wednesday, we welcomed guests to the school at our Open Morning to have a tour and find out what we are all about. I have to say that our children behaved with courtesy and good manners and showed our guests what a wonderful place it is here at Barrow Hills.  In the afternoon, Year 5 and 6 had their matches, with many reporting back wins. On my walk from the Great Roke to the Thomas Moore, it was a lovely surprise to see Mr Towers, Mrs Klein and Year 3 pressing apples to make apple juice with our new apple press. I was even given a sample of the juice, and how delicious it was indeed!

Year 6 have continued to work hard on their studies, and I have been hearing how engaging and relaxing Mr Towers’ mindfulness sessions have been. I have been informed by the children that they now have the technique to hold their breath for 1 min!

To end the week, LAMDA examinations were in full swing on Thursday along with a visiting author who came in and visited Year 3. On Friday, we waved Year 6 off to Legoland and crossed our fingers that the weather would be kind to them!

Housekeeping:

  • Over the half-term, please could you check pencil cases and equipment and restock where necessary. When we return, form teachers will be checking equipment with the children to ensure they have everything they need
  • Winter uniforms for all students should be worn after mid term break
  • Please can Year 4’s read through their scripts. It would also be useful if they could choose the part they would like to audition for. They will have a full read through on our first Monday back and audition for parts at that point

Reminders:

Please could you fill out the form for the Pantomime in December, if you haven’t already done so.

Stars of the week were awarded to Thomas (4G), Jessica (4R), Vasco (3G) and Clemmie (3R).

All that is left for me to say is I hope you have wonderful half-term breaks, and I look forward to seeing you all in 2 weeks time.
